Drain and remove caps, then follow either method A for Sliced Strawberries or method B for Whole Strawberries:

Method A (retains flavor best) – Sliced Strawberries

Slice berries into bowl or pan. Use one cup sugar to seven cups berries, or more sugar if you like fruit extra sweet.

Sprinkle sugar over fruit; using large spoon, mix gently until some juice is drawn from fruit and most sugar is dissolved. Avoid breaking up fruit.

Pack berries and juice into containers, leaving one inch head space for expansion during freezing.

½ cup plus 2 tablespoons semisweet chocolate morsels, divided

8-oz. package cream cheese

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup whipping cream, whipped

1 pint fresh Gettings Garden strawberries

1 teaspoon shortening

Combine first three ingredients, mixing well; firmly press onto bottom and sides of a lightly greased 9” pie plate. Bake at 325 degrees for 10 minutes; cool completely.

Place ½ cup chocolate morsels on top of double boiler; bring water to boil; reduce heat to low; cook until chocolate melts. Set chocolate aside to cool slightly, then drizzle over baked crust.

Beat cream cheese with an electric mixer until light and fluffy; add brown sugar and vanilla; mix well. Fold whipped cream into cream cheese mixture; spoon filling into prepared crust. Chill eight hours. Set aside one strawberry and cut remaining berries into thick slices. Arrange slices over filling; place whole berry in center.

Combine remaining two tablespoons chocolate morsels and shortening in a small saucepan and melt over low heat. Drizzle over strawberries.
