Meet the Getting's
Getting’s Garden is definitely a "family affair"!
It all started back in 1983 when Don Sr., Sheril, Don Jr.
and Mary Jo Getting, started the strawberry business. It all
began with picking off of 1 acre to presently picking
off of 12 acres.
Presently Don and Mary Jo Getting are in partnership with their son
and daughter-in-law Andrew and Karissa Getting. Don and Andy
also grain farm together. Mary Jo works as a Community Skills
Manager at Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon. Karissa
is a BSRN at Sanford Hospital in Sheldon, and is going back
to school to become a Nurse Practitioner. It is wonderful having
Andy and Karissa live close by, we feel
blessed! Brittany recently moved back home after graduating
from college and working
as a marketing director in Sioux Falls. Like many people she
is looking for a job, but until then we are utilizing her talents
with our strawberry
business. With Brittany, came "Peanut", a Pomeranian puppy,
which we are truly enjoying.
Sheril Getting, Don's mom, continues to make jam and pies and enjoys
visiting with the customers that stop by her house.
The past 27 years the whole family has worked together in the strawberry
business, with Don being the "anchor". Andy and Brittany
grew up weeding the beds, picking berries, working in the stand
and helping our customers find the perfect row to pick in. They
have done their share
of frost protecting in the spring with their dad, which proves
to be a long, cold, wet night. They definitely have their stories.
Over the years, we have had the opportunity to employ many high school
and college kids during the summer, and have enjoyed working
with them. We have been told several times, that we have the
"nicest kids" working
for us.
In February, Don, Mary Jo, Andy and Karissa attended the North
American Strawberry Growers Conference in Tampa, Florida.
It was good to network with other growers and to learn how to grow the
best strawberries!
We give all the glory and praise to our Heavenly Father for
giving us this opportunity to work together as a family and
to have the strawberry business. We have met many wonderful
people over the years
and appreciate your business year after year.
We look forward to seeing you in the "Patch".
